I am passionate about life, love, and laughter. As a practicing Licensed Clinical Psychologist, I liken the process of a high-level, deep-structure psychotherapeutic relationship to that of a mid-wife, who assists another, pregnant with conflict, knowing that the other person must labor with the pain of their experience and experience the labor of their pain in order to give birth to his/her/their self.
Many of my clients are "regular" people who have hit "a bump-in-the-road" and need a helping hand. Others have battled with mental illness throughout their lives. And some have experienced horrific, traumatizing adversities and are trying to survive, hanging on, with all their might.
With 40+ years of professional experience, my clinical background is broad, diverse, and deep. I can diagnose and treat the mental health needs of most individuals. I am no stranger to the competing and conflicting vicissitudes of both the strengths and frailties of the human condition.
As a “black belt” in martial arts, and also a “black belt” in the art of living, I value the dance of mind-body-spirit at-one-ness. For me, life is the “prime directive” and failure is simply not an option.
I am fiercely devoted to each of my clients, with a deep and profound respect for their own self-agency and self-determination.
In addition to my clinical work, I have authored over 400 articles on life and relationship matters.
"When you are tired and troubled, and need a helping hand," I will be happy to help.
I bring to my clients more than 40 years of professional experience in both mental health and medical health settings. As a practicing Licensed Clinical Psychologist, I diagnose and treat a diverse population of seniors, adults, couples, adolescents, and families, across the full spectrum of life’s mental health struggles.
For me, each client is his/her/their own special unit of relevance; to be heard, regarded, respected, and understood for who and whom they are. Many of my clients struggle with adjustive challenges of major life transitions and events. Others have endured chronic mental and/or medical illnesses. And some have suffered inordinate, complex traumas for which simple solutions and/or resolutions are not simply not enough.
As an advocate for the best interests of my clients, my work emanates from a conviction that values authenticity, positive self-regard, psychological readiness, and personal responsibility. Accordingly, I strive to help my clients solve or resolve their problems and conflicts, and/or transform their emotional pain into opportunities for discovery, growth, and change.
In addition to my clinical work, I have taught, supervised, consulted with, mentored, and trained mental health, medical health, human service, and allied health care professionals, as well as masters and doctoral students, around the world. I have authored several published articles and have been a featured mental health expert to community groups, radio talk shows, and newspapers.
“If you seek meaning, purpose, and joy in your life and your relationships, I will be happy to help.”
